This week’s nutrition article is the start of a long hard look at the viability of Paleo for endurance athletes. I want to know categorically, if paleo is a good for marathon runners, and whether or not the body can put in big mileage while eating paleo.
Marathon endurance is mind stuff. The body will only take you so far before it reaches a threshold where it begins offering you signals to stop, to throw in the towel. The messages can be very compelling, but your ability to ignore those messages and keep going allows you to set a new threshold. And so on until your endurance for long distance increases.
